You Asked, We Listened

Recently we launched a Facebook poll asking UK Opticians the following question;

'When deciding on a new frame range, which are the most important deciding factors for you?'

The response we had was absolutely incredible, and it was great to see additional poll options as suggested by you.

We thought it would be a great idea to go through the results together and look at how Bird Eyewear can better help independent UK Opticians.

Here are the Top 5 results
(shown from highest to lowest).

1) Originality in design (22%)

Back in 2019 when Bird Eyewear first launched our frame of the year model; the Blackcap, we knew that we might rustle some feathers through our innovative materials and bold design.

We love to break the mould in a way that works. It's important to remember that it's great to make a new innovative design, but only if your patients will actually purchase it.

Our designs showcase our belief in the Bird rule of 95/5; 95% safe 5% wild. It's about building timeless designs that customers will feel comfortable and confident in, and then giving it some extra Bird magic to make them irresistible.

For example, check out our Rio Noir. On the surface, the Rio Noir appears to be black, but when held up to light, an intricate hand-rolled weave of scarlet and indigo is revealed.

95% safe, 5% wild.

2) Quality of the frame (19%)

There's no mistaking the quality of our frames. In fact, one of the most common pieces of feedback we received in 2023 was that our frames were priced too low for their high level of quality.

Our proprietary bio-acetate called 'Plantix®' is high regarded for it's durability and is made from the ground-up (quite literally). Having previously used various bio-acetates from all over the World, Plantix® is the creation of years of testing, research and development.

On each pair of our Plantix® frames you'll find ultra durable triple-sprung hinges and full length integrated temple rods, as standard.

We're so confident that you'll love the quality of our frames, that we provide a free sample box so you can try them out in your practice anytime.

3) Customer service and support from the brand (17%)

This is an area where Bird shines. We are a company made of 8 uniquely talented individuals, who come together to make an awesome team;

Ed - CEO & Founder
Lawrence -CMO & Founder
Karen - Accounts & Compliance
Ryan - Head of B2B
Sian - Customer Account Manager
Dave - Creative Design & Marketing
Zen - Fulfilment & Operations
Lydia - Social Media & Collaborations

There is no complex corporate system to navigate, we are an independent brand, which means we can make decisions that really matter.

Rather than call centres of bots, we have real human beings based in our Devon HQ, who are keen to help you achieve your goals through our sustainable eyewear. You can contact us via phone, whatsapp, email, video call, carrier pigeon, or you can even vist us in person,.

We provide routine support to our network through regular themed campaigns that you can join, training videos for your staff, frame recycling scheme, digital assets available for you to use, continually updated POS, window displays and story telling pieces.

In essence, we're about way more than creating great sustainable frames.

4) Ability to swap frames out (9%)

Imagine buying a range of frames only to find that they don't actually sell. The rep has taken their commission and you're left with stock that don't live up to expectations. Unfortunately, it's a nightmare that many Opticians face, so we flipped the whole thing on it's head.

We actively encourage our stockists to use our free frame swapping service, to find what works best for them. There are no restocking fees for Bird Eyewear swaps, simply send the frames back to us, and as long as they are in sale-able condition, we will swap them out for any frames of the same value. You'll always have the latest ranges as we don't have a time limit on swaps.

5) Exclusivity (7%)

This is such a great suggestion. It's also a good example of where we can make positive changes that will benefit our network of Opticians.

From our perspective, we want each Bird Eyewear stockist to thrive. It would make more sense to have a single stockist that finds real value in stocking Bird, than multiple stockists in the same location fighting to sell the same brand.

Our objective is to have a stockist in every major town and City in the UK, so that we can direct more customers to our network of Opticians.

To further benefit Opticians, our Optical ranges are exclusively available through UK Opticians. As of the 1st September 2024, there will be no cross-over between our sun and optical ranges. This means that best-selling models such as Alba, Athene, Blackcap, Kaka, Hawk, Raven, Rio, Scops, Strix, Tawny and many more will exclusively be available through UK Opticians.
